A garage fire in northeast Monterey County on Tuesday afternoon caused an estimated $300,000 of damage, firefighters said.
The fire was reported just after 4 p.m. at Carneros and Carpinteria roads in the unincorporated community of Aromas.
A crew of 16 firefighters launched a quick, aggressive attack on the well-involved fire, containing the blaze to the detached garage without letting it extend to the adjacent house or nearby vegetation.
No injuries were reported. The garage and its contents were completely destroyed, but firefighters estimated that they saved the owners from an additional $400,000 loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
