Man opens fire on San Jose police officers

Two police officers escaped injury Sunday evening in San Jose when a suspect shot at them multiple times, police said.

The two officers were walking on a patrol at 7:36 p.m. near Luby and Ripley drives when they tried to talk to a group of boys or men.

Most of the people in the group ran off but one person turned and fired a gun at the officers, according to police.

The officers did not fire back.

Police said they have surrounded the area to find the shooter.

Police are describing the suspect as a clean-shaven Hispanic man in his 20s, 6 feet tall and 160 to 180 pounds. The suspect was wearing a black and gray sweater with a white T-shirt underneath and dark pants.

Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call 911. Callers can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-7867.
