San Jose assault victim dies after seven months

A man who reported an assault in San Jose and was sent to a hospital in April succumbed to his injuries Friday, police said.

Tim Cheesman, 48, on April 18 told an acquaintance he was assaulted, but gave limited information on the alleged crime including where it happened, police said.

Cheesman’s condition took a turn for the worse the next day when he was in the 600 block of South Ninth Street and was transported to a hospital for life-threatening injuries, police said.

The San Jose man was initially expected to survive and sent to an intensive care unit where medical staff observed him, according to police.

Detectives investigating the case identified James Lamont Siordia, 40, of San Jose as a suspect and arrested him on April 21, police said.

Cheesman died of his injuries today, turning the case into the city’s 43rd homicide this year, according to police.
