Dozen felony charges filed against suspected steroid dealer

A man police suspect of selling large quantities of illegal steroids from his home in Walnut Creek turned himself in to authorities in October, according to police.

Local investigators were alerted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in February that they had intercepted about two pounds of steroids mailed from Hong Kong to the suspect, 36-year-old Daniel Tenca.

Walnut Creek police detectives searched Tenca’s home on Third Avenue in March and found about 10 pounds of powdered steroids, 10 pounds of liquid steroids, more than $25,000 in cash and thousands of items that appear to be equipment used in a drug lab and sales enterprise, according to police.

On Oct. 12, the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office filed 12 felony drug charges against Tenca, who later turned himself in to authorities, according to Walnut Creek police Lt. Lanny Edwards.

Tenca posted $720,000 bail and is awaiting his next court appearance, police said.
