Napa city manager appoints new fire chief

Battalion Chief Steve Brassfield will be Napa’s new fire chief when Mike Randolph retires at the end of the year, Napa City Manager Mike Parness announced Thursday.

Randolph will retire Dec. 31 after 28 years of service, and Brassfield’s appointment is effective Jan. 1.

“Steve is mission-oriented and relationship-driven, with an emphasis on providing leadership focused on the future and meeting the changes and demands of fire service. I know he will continue to uphold the legacy of the Napa Fire Department,” Parness said in a statement.

Brassfield was an emergency medical technician and a paramedic for five years before he became a firefighter and paramedic with the Napa Fire Department 22 years ago.

He was promoted to fire captain in less than six years, served as a training officer and truck captain and a shift battalion chief in 2012. He was appointed administration battalion chief this year.

Brassfield currently manages Napa’s Disaster Preparedness and Reserve Firefighter programs and is a mentor and coach of the Workforce Development Program.

“I am confident that the department will be in good hands when I pass the torch to Steve after my retirement,” Randolph said.

“I feel blessed to be part of and serve the Napa community. Our fire department will continue to do great things and maintain the excellence our community expects of us,” Brassfield said.
