City announces 244 new supportive housing units

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee Thursday announced The City will be adding 244 new permanent supportive housing units for homeless residents within the next three months.

The first 50 units at the Crown Hotel at 528 Valencia St. opened on Oct. 27, officials said today.

Another 104 units are scheduled to open this fall in the Winton Hotel at 445 O’Farrell St. and the final 90 units will open at the National Hotel at 1139 Market St. this winter.

The supportive units, which will provide long-term affordable housing that includes access to social services, will be managed by the Tenderloin Housing Clinic.

Mayor Lee said:

“These new units will end homelessness overnight for 244 San Franciscans. … We are thrilled to provide new housing opportunities and hand over the keys to the new units to those who deserve the chance at a fresh start.”

The new units are in addition to The City’s current portfolio of more than 6,200 supportive housing units, according to the mayor’s office.

They are being developed and paid for by a collaborative effort between the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the San Francisco Housing Authority, the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing and the Tenderloin Housing Clinic.
