Pedestrian killed in Concord was also hit by police car

A man who appears to have been struck and killed by a vehicle near the Concord Pavilion early Monday morning was also struck by a police patrol car as he was lying in the middle of the road, according to Concord police officials.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, appears to have been struck first by a man driving north on Kirker Pass Road near Kirkwood Drive at about 2:30 a.m., said Concord police spokesman Nicholas Gartner.

As the first driver pulled over and called 911 to report the incident, a Clayton police officer on an unrelated call accidentally hit the man again as he was laying in the middle of the road, Concord police said.

The civilian driver and the Clayton officer are both cooperating with the investigation, which is being conducted by Concord police and the Contra Costa County district attorney’s office, Gartner said.
