Dog-tosser earns 180 days in jail, probation

A Fairfield woman was sentenced to three years probation and 180 days in jail Wednesday for felony animal abuse of a dog that was captured in a video in December.

Brandi Chin, 31, pleaded no contest to the charge in September. A surveillance camera video recorded her throwing Benny, a pug, on a Fairfield street after an argument with her boyfriend on Dec. 19. The prosecution said she also hit and choked the dog.

The dog rolled several times on the ground and was taken to Solano County Humane Services. Chin was arrested in Vallejo on January 6.

Solano County Superior Court Judge John Ellis ordered Chin to find a new home for the dog she currently owns.

Solano County Chief Deputy District Attorney Sharon Henry said the judge allowed Chin to serve the rest of her 180-day term after she receives credits for time served in a jail alternative program.
