Marin citizens unload 143 pounds of pills

Citizens in Marin County dropped off an estimated 143 pounds of unused, expired and unwanted prescription drugs Saturday in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 12th National Prescription Take Back Day.

Citizens took the opportunity to dispose of the medicine at the Marinwood Fire Station at 777 Miller Creek Road in San Rafael and at the Marin County Public Safety Building at 850 Drake Ave. in Marin City.

The aim of the event is to prevent theft and the abuse of prescription drugs, sheriff’s officials said.

The officials said the event was a huge success because, for one, citizens dropped off far more pounds of pills than the 39 pounds dropped off in April.

More information about the disposal of prescription drugs and future take-back events can be found at www.marinsheriff.org or https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/index.html.
