The California Highway Patrol first reported the incident around 4:30 p.m., and all lanes were reopened just after 8:15 p.m.
Redwood City firefighters and the CHP responded to northbound U.S. Highway 101 just south of Holly Street to a report of an RV fire. Emergency crews arrived to find the RV engulfed in flames.
The two occupants, Fred King, 63, and his wife Constantine King, 65, from La Pine Oregon, escaped the RV safely with their two dogs, according to the CHP.
The couple had been returning home from a model rocket show in Las Vegas when they noticed smoke inside the RV, according to the CHP.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene to keep the motoring public safe in case any of the rockets or a half-full 105-pound propane tank with the RV exploded, according to the CHP.
All northbound and southbound lanes of the highway were closed between Holly Street and Woodside Road during the incident.
The southbound lanes of the highway were reopened at 6:20 p.m.
once the fire had been put out by the Redwood City Fire Department.
Two northbound lanes were reopened shortly before 7 p.m. and the remaining northbound lanes were reopened at 8:17 p.m.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Redwood City Fire Department.
