An Uber driver was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police parking assistant issuing him a ticket in downtown Mountain View on Thursday evening, police said.
Ghulam Mohammadi, 62, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Santa Clara County Jail, police said.
The assistant assigned to work parking enforcement saw a driver, later identified as Mohammadi, drop off a customer and park in a red zone at Bryant and California streets near a CVS Pharmacy, police said.
The assistant started to write up a parking ticket and quickly became involved in a confrontation with Mohammadi, according to police.
The suspect allegedly backed up into the police assistant’s car, which was pushed backwards, police said.
The assistant was able to step away and didn’t suffer any injuries, according to police.
Uber did not immediately respond to a request for comment this evening.
