Pedestrian struck on Central Freeway connector dies

A pedestrian who was struck by a pickup truck early this morning on a highway connector ramp in San Francisco has died, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The collision involving a gray 1997 Ford Ranger was reported at 5:06 a.m. on the connector from westbound Interstate Highway 80 to the Central Freeway and northbound U.S. Highway 101.

CHP officials initially reported the collision caused major injuries to the pedestrian, but later said the pedestrian died at a hospital.

The name of the pedestrian was not immediately released.

A lane on the connector ramp was blocked following the collision but all lanes are now clear, CHP officials said.
