Teen becomes second to die after motorcycle race

A teen involved in a motorcycle collision Sunday during a racing event at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds died at a hospital Monday, according to Sonoma County sheriff’s officials.

The victim, identified as 17-year-old Pennsylvania resident Kyle McGrane, is the second person to die in connection with a collision during Sunday’s event, sheriff’s officials said.

Charlotte Kainz, 20, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin had been participating in a motorcycle race when she collided with another rider at about 12:20 p.m.

Kainz was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where she died a few hours later, according to sheriff’s officials. The rider who Kainz collided with suffered minor injuries.

McGrane was involved in a separate collision, although details surrounding that collision were not immediately available. He was also taken to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he died Monday afternoon, sheriff’s officials said.

Both victims had been participating in the three-day long Ramspur Winery Santa Rosa Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Motorcycle Race event.

AMA Pro Racing CEO Michael Lock said in a statement:

“The flat track community is tight-knit, and today we are all mourning. … Charlotte and Kyle were talented competitors with bright futures. Our deepest condolences go out to their families and friends in this time of need.”
