Drivers are being advised to avoid the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge this morning after a big-rig wreck resulted in a fire that closed all eastbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fire was reported at 8:02 a.m. after the big rig apparently crashed into the bridge’s guardrail. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported, CHP spokesman Officer Andrew Barclay said.
The fire was extinguished but all eastbound lanes of Interstate 580 on the bridge remain closed. Tow trucks are en route, as are Caltrans crews responsible for inspecting the bridge for possible structural damage, Barclay said.
No additional information was available.
