Motorcycle racer dies after crash during race

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has identified a motorcycle racer who died in a collision at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds on Sunday as 20-year-old Charlotte Kainz of Milwaukee.

Kainz was participating in the outdoor Ramspur Winery Santa Rosa Mile AMA Pro Flat Track race at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds when she collided with a male rider, according to Rebecca Bartling, CEO of the Sonoma County Event Center at the fairgrounds on Bennett Valley Road.

The collision happened around 12:20 p.m. Kainz was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where she died, Sonoma County sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Crum said.

The male rider’s injuries were not life-threatening, Bartling said.

On her Facebook page last Tuesday, Kainz said she just turned 20 and was excited about the year ahead.

The AMA Pro Flat Track’s website said the Santa Rosa racetrack is a “cushion surface” where riders spew dirt going sideways at more than 100 mph.
