Suspicious package clo­ses Mission at S. Van Ness

San Francisco police are responding this morning to a report of a suspicious package in the area of Mission Street and South Van Ness Avenue and have blocked off access to all vehicles and pedestrians, a police spokeswoman said.

San Francisco Municipal Railway officials reported the package at 7:27 a.m. at a bus stop and police have set up a perimeter that encompasses several blocks, police spokeswoman Officer Giselle Talkoff said.

UPDATE 10:24 a.m. Rice cooker snarls San Francisco morning traffic.

The department’s bomb squad has been called out and people are advised to avoid the area, Talkoff said.

No additional information about the incident was immediately available.
