A nonprofit that has provided childcare in San Francisco’s Excelsior neighborhood for nearly 50 years will be able to buy their building with the help of city agencies, Mayor Ed Lee announced Tuesday.
The Mission Child Care Consortium, which provides subsidized and bilingual care to more than 200 children, was able to secure the $5.68 million needed to buy its building at 4750 Mission St. with the help of a $3.3 million loan from The City’s Low Income Investment Fund, officials said.
The funding also included $1.8 million in city grants, an additional donation from the Hellman Foundation and the consortium’s own equity.
Lee said in a statement Tuesday:
“Often, when local non-profits face challenges, they are forced to find creative solutions. … The City’s assistance in the purchase of this building is part of my larger investment to contribute $728 million in programs for children, youth and families over the next two years.”
The Mission Child Care Consortium was founded in 1969 and is the city’s largest subsidized early education facility.
