Three killed in Reno as plane headed for San Carlos crashes

Three people died Sunday evening when a plane headed to San Carlos crashed shortly after takeoff from Reno-Tahoe International Airport, according to airport officials.

Officials from the airport in Reno, Nevada, posted on Facebook that a Piper Cherokee single-engine aircraft took off around 6:15 p.m. but some sort of problem occurred shortly afterward and the plane crashed into a surface parking lot.

National Transportation Safety Board officials were expected to investigate the crash today, according to airport officials.

No other information about the case or the victims on board was immediately available today.
