Bruce Miller cut by 49ers after alleged hotel assault

The San Francisco 49ers wasted little time Monday morning, jettisoning tight end Bruce Miller after the 29-year-old was arrested overnight in San Francisco on assault charges after an alleged violent incident at a Fisherman’s Wharf hotel.

A one-line press release and tweet from the team confirmed Miller’s release mere hours after San Francisco police arrested the five-year NFL veteran. Miller was arrested on charges of battery, assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of making criminal threats, according to KTVU.

Hours before the alleged incident, Miller posted a photo of himself on Instagram with two friends, with a caption reading “Sunday’s [sic] are for the boys.”

San Francisco Police said they responded to a hotel in the 1200 block of Columbus Ave. on a report of an intoxicated person. The suspect, later identified as Miller, was attempting to enter a hotel room that was not his.

Police said a 70-year-old male and 66-year-old female in the room did not know Miller, and that the couple’s 29-year-old son emerged from an adjoining room to inform Miller he was at the wrong room. That’s when police say Miller charged at him, “starting a physical confrontation.”

The father tried to defend his son and was punched by Miller, according to police. The father and son were transported to a hospital, and Miller‎ was later located across the street at a different hotel before being arrested.

KTVU reported Miller had visited the hotel earlier in the evening to rent a room, but was told none were available.

Miller’s latest entanglement with law enforcement comes 14 months after pleading no contest to disturbing the peace after being accused of shoving his former fiancee and smashing her cell phone at a Santa Clara bagel shop last March.

The San Francisco 49ers open their 2016 season without Miller next Monday, hosting the Los Angeles Rams at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
