SF man sentenced after underage Thailand sex

A man was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in San Francisco to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to traveling to a foreign country to engage in sexual activities with a minor, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Shaun Kelley, 57, admitted when he pleaded guilty on May 13 that in September 2013, he traveled to Thailand where he spent the next three years.

Kelley told prosecutors he paid a 14-year-old boy, whom he allegedly knew to be underage, to engage in sexual activity with him on June 10, 2015, and that he took a video depicting the encounter.

Earlier this year, a grand jury indicted Kelley with a single count of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places.

In addition to his 10-year prison sentence, Kelley was also sentenced by U.S. District Judge Susan Illston to serve five years of supervised release.
