Three hurt in Market Street taxi crash

One man is in critical condition and two others are in fair condition after a taxicab crashed on a sidewalk in San Francisco’s Financial District Tuesday afternoon, according to San Francisco General Hospital officials.

Three patients were taken to the hospital after the 3:15 p.m.

crash near the corner of Sansome and Sutter streets with what were described as life-threatening injuries, according to San Francisco Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Baxter.

The taxi went on to the sidewalk for an unknown reason, crashed into a newsstand and struck two people, Baxter said.

The taxi driver was among those taken to the hospital, Baxter said.

Hospital spokesman Brent Andrew said one patient, a 40-year-old male, is in critical condition, while two other male patients, ages 59 and 66, are listed in fair condition.
