Former Oakland A's baseball player Jose Canseco had his car burglarized early Wednesday morning at a Pittsburg Hampton Inn.
Former Oakland A’s baseball player Jose Canseco, who signed recently with the Pittsburg Diamonds independent professional team, had his car burglarized last week in a parking lot of a Pittsburg hotel, police said.
Canseco’s car was burglarized overnight in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn & Suites hotel at 1201 California Ave.
The manager of the hotel saw the alleged burglary occur from inside the hotel via a video camera, according to police.
When officers arrived, they spoke with a suspect associated with a vehicle in the parking lot. The vehicle was allegedly stolen from Antioch, police said.
A second suspect and some of Canseco’s property were inside the vehicle, according to police. Canseco was at the hotel during the burglary and he was able to identify his property inside the vehicle.
The suspects in the burglary are Oakland resident Sergio Verduzco and Pittsburg resident Richard Lewis. Both were booked into the county jail on suspicion of burglary and for outstanding warrants.
Verduzco was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and Lewis for grand theft and possession of stolen property, police said.
Canseco, 52, announced earlier in August he was joining the Pittsburg Diamonds, part of the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs.
He is a former Major League Baseball American League Most Valuable Player for Oakland and gained infamy in his post-MLB career after writing a tell-all book about steroid use in professional baseball.
