A San Francisco man died while surfing at Ocean Beach Sunday evening, officials said Monday.
San Francisco firefighters and National Parks Service personnel responded to Ocean Beach near Rivera Street around 6:30 p.m. Sunday for a surf rescue, according to fire department spokesman Jonathan Baxter.
The surfer, who has been identified by the medical examiner as 29-year-old Jason Zumbo, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Baxter said it is unclear if Zumbo experienced a medical event in the water.
