Baby horse rescued in Alameda County

A male foal was rescued Wednesday evening in unincorporated Alameda County by firefighters who were tipped off to the lost horse by a resident, Alameda County Fire Department officials said.

A person stopped by a Castro Valley fire station to tell firefighters about the young horse, which was in a housing tract off Crow Creek Road near the station.

Firefighters responded and found the horse scared, dehydrated and weak, according to fire officials.

Three firefighters calmed and secured the horse. The firefighters then called officials with the Alta Vista Equestrian Center, who responded and took the foal to a Hayward ranch, fire officials said.
