One of three burglars who stole computers and laptops from an Apple building in Cupertino early Wednesday morning was caught in San Jose where a deputy saw cords hanging out from the car’s trunk, Santa Clara County sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies received a call reporting a burglary around 4:20 a.m.
from security personnel at the company’s building on Bubb Road and Results Way, Sheriff Laurie Smith said.
The suspects broke into the building, which is about 2 miles away from company headquarters, but no employees were inside besides the security workers, according to Smith.
The building guards described the suspect vehicle as a black car that a deputy saw on state Highway 85 and Camden Avenue in San Jose, sheriff’s Sgt. James Jensen said.
The deputy saw computer cords hanging from the back of the vehicle and pursued the vehicle for a short distance, Smith said.
The vehicle pulled over in the area of Camden Avenue and Lancaster Drive, Jensen said.
Three men jumped out of the vehicle, prompting deputies to set up a perimeter in the area, Smith said.
Deputies quickly caught one of the alleged burglars with help from San Jose police, Jensen said.
The suspect, identified as Richard Bejarano, was arrested north of the highway, according to sheriff’s officials.
Investigators are still looking for the other two suspects and hope to identify them through fingerprints in the vehicle, Smith said.
Deputies were able to recover the stolen property. No injuries were reported, she said.
The perimeter was set up for about three hours and deputies didn’t find any weapons in the area, sheriff’s officials said.
