A bicyclist succumbed to his injuries after being struck Friday morning by a commuter train in San Jose, Caltrain officials said.
Police at 9:25 a.m. confirmed with Caltrain officials that the 54-year-old man died at a hospital in Caltrain’s eighth fatality of the year.
The man’s name will be released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner once his family is notified.
At about 8 a.m. northbound Caltrain No. 329 hit the man at the West Virginia Street railroad crossing. The man was taken to a hospital after initially surviving the collision, Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.
