Smoke in subway halts Muni Metro service

A report of smoke in a subway tunnel near San Francisco’s Civic Center station caused brief delays to Muni Metro lines Monday morning, according to a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency spokesman.

Muni service was halted around 9:35 a.m. after a report of smoke in an inbound tunnel, according to Muni spokesman Paul Rose.

The San Francisco Fire Department responded and extinguished a fire in a small pile of debris located in a fan room, according to fire department spokesman Jonathan Baxter.

Fire officials and Muni work crews inspected the area and cleared Muni to resume service by 9:45 a.m., Rose said.

All lines were moving again but passengers were being warned to expect some residual delays as of 9:50 a.m.
