Teen girl helps catch home burglar

A 14-year-old girl helped catch a 29-year-old man breaking into her Castro Valley home Thursday afternoon, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at 1:30 p.m. to the 21300 block of Orange Avenue on a report of the burglary.

The 14-year-old was home alone when she heard the man coming through a bathroom window, sheriff’s officials said. The girl sent a text message to her mother who called the sheriff’s office.

The suspect’s car was parked in the home’s driveway with its engine running when deputies arrived, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputies spotted the suspect leaving out the back of the home and when he saw them he jumped some fences and was detained on a perimeter set up by deputies.

Stolen goods from the home were recovered and other stolen goods were found in the man’s vehicle, sheriff’s officials said.

The suspect was booked into the county jail.
