Dozens of residents of a high-rise apartment building in downtown San Jose have been displaced after a fire broke out this morning, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
Around 4:20 a.m., firefighters responded to the Vintage Tower Apartments 235 E. Santa Clara St. for a report of a fire, according to fire Cap. Mitch Matlow.
The fire was quickly contained and firefighters were able to extinguish it, Matlow said.
Although the blaze was put out fast, much of the 12-story building sustained water damage from the sprinkler system, according to Matlow.
Between 40 and 60 people have been displaced, Matlow said.
Additionally, firefighters extricated one person from the building.
Fife officials are assisting the displaced residents with gathering their belongings and helping them move to a shelter, according to Matlow.
A cause for the fire is under investigation.
