Draymond Green was drunk night of arrest

Draymond Green was drunk Sunday morning when he was arrested after he and 22-year-old Michigan State cornerback Jermaine Edmondson Jr. scuffled outside an East Lansing restaurant, according to a police report obtained Wednesday morning by SFBay.

Green’s alleged assault capped a two-day confrontation with Edmondson, according to a statement the football player gave to East Lansing police. Edmondson told police he became upset when Green bumped into him inside Rick’s American Cafe Friday night and refused to say “excuse me.”

Edmondson’s statement to police said he asked Green “who he was to think that it’s okay to bump into somebody without saying excuse me.” Edmondson said Green — who played four seasons of basketball at Michigan State from 2008 to 2012 — responded by saying “I pay for n*ggas like you scholarships.”

Edmondson said he was then “choked out” by two of Green’s companions before he was taken downstairs by Rick’s employees. He said he then heard his girlfriend scream, and when he ran over to her, she told him she was also choked by one of Green’s associates. Edmondson wrote in his statement:

“This is wrong on so many levels for someone to think something like this is okay. Me and my girlfriend were both choked in front of our peers and we couldn’t do anything about it.”

Edmondson said he saw Green again Saturday night, this time at Conrad’s Grill, across the street from Rick’s in an area with several bars and restaurants near the Michigan State campus.

Edmondson said in his statement to police:

“I walk over and I tell Draymond that last night wasn’t cool. … As I started to talk again, boom, I’m punched in my jaw. In front of all my peers and friends.”

The arresting officer writes in the police report that he was outside Conrad’s when he saw Green “open handedly slap” Edmondson across the face with his right hand, writing that “the sound of the slap was very loud.”

Green was arrested and handcuffed without incident and transported to the East Lansing Police Department jail. While in jail, police said Green submitted to a breathalyzer test, which showed his blood alcohol level to be 0.10, above the 0.08 legal limit in Michigan. Police required Green to remain in jail until “completely sober.”
