Trash fire snuffed at San Jose recycling center

A large pile of trash burned outside a recycling facility in San Jose early Monday morning, a fire department spokesman said.

Crews responded to a report of a fire at Valley Recycling at 1615 S. Seventh St., less than a mile away from Spartan Stadium, at 4:06 a.m., San Jose Fire Capt. Christopher Salcido said.

Firefighters had to get past gates and locks to access the blaze at the rear of the facility, Salcido said.

They found a pile of wood pellets and debris from construction demolition in flames, he said.

The one-alarm fire was under control at 5:25 a.m. and didn’t spread to any structures, Salcido said.

There were no signs of a homeless encampment in the area, according to Salcido.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
