Draymond Green arrested on assault charge

East Lansing court records show that Warriors forward Draymond Green was arrested during the early hours of Sunday morning and charged with assault and battery.

The Warriors issued a statement which said:

“We are aware of news involving Draymond Green in Michigan over the weekend. At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation.”

An All-Star and selection to join Team USA for the 2016 Summer Olympics, Green played for the losing team in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on June 19th.

A court filing obtained by SFBay shows that Green posted bond in cash and that this is Green’s first arrest that involved detention. Repeated phone calls to East Lansing Police were sent directly to voicemail.

Green is a Michigan native and star at Michigan State University, where he was later chosen in the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors.

Update

Police records show an arrest was made at 2:28 a.m. Sunday morning, and that Green was driving a car with paper license plates, usually associated with newly purchased cars. An arraignment date of July 20 has been set, according to court records.
