One thousand more California students than last year were admitted to the University of California at Berkeley’s freshman class for the 2016-17 academic year, university officials said.
More money from state coffers allowed university officials to make the offers, which are part of an effort by the University of California system to increase the admission of California students to the 10 University of California campuses.
Of the 82,570 students who applied to UC Berkeley, 14,425, or 17.5 percent, were offered admission to the freshman class.
The percentage of California students who were offered admission was 21.3 percent of those who applied, compared with 16.5 percent of out-of-state residents and 7.6 percent of international students.
