A 3-year-old boy died in a collision Sunday evening in unincorporated Sonoma County just outside Sonoma, officials with the California Highway Patrol and Sonoma Valley Fire & Rescue Authority said.
The incident was first reported at 6 p.m. at Railroad and Verano avenues where a family was crossing the street in a crosswalk at a four-way intersection when a truck collided with the boy.
The child suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, CHP Officer William Ogilvie said.
The boy was in a stroller with another child, who escaped injury, Sonoma Valley Fire & Rescue Authority Battalion Chief John Franceschi said.
The boy’s other family members also escaped injury. The family lives near the city limits of Sonoma but not in the city, Franceschi said.
The driver stopped to cooperate with CHP officers investigating the collision.
