Police have reunited a 14-year-old boy with his puppy, which was stolen from him at gunpoint earlier this week in San Leandro, police announced Friday night.
Around the 8:30 p.m. Monday, the boy was walking with his 3-month-old German Sheppard in the 1500 block of Dayton Avenue, when two men parked their car near him, according to police.
One of the passengers inside the car got out and tried to snatch the puppy, named Maya, from the teen. The suspect claimed to be armed with a pistol, police said.
When the teen refused to let go of the dog, the driver then got out of the vehicle and pointed a pistol at him.
The teen let go of the puppy, and the suspects fled in their vehicle with the dog, according to police.
An alert citizen eventually helped officers locate the puppy and reunite it with its owner, police said.
Details about where the puppy was found were not immediately available and it was not immediately clear if an arrest had been made.
