San Leandro boy has puppy robbed at gunpoint

Police in San Leandro are investigating the theft of a puppy from a 14-year-old teen on Monday.

The 14-year-old boy was walking his 3-month-old German Sheppard puppy Maya in the 1500 block of Dayton Avenue at 8:30 p.m. when two men armed with a pistol stole the puppy.

The teen said he was walking Maya when two men in their early 20s parked their car near him, and the passenger got out and tried to snatch the puppy while claiming to be armed with a pistol.

The teen refused to let go of the dog, so the driver got out of the vehicle and pointed a pistol at him, police said.

The teen let go of the puppy, and the suspects fled with the dog.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the San Leandro Police Department (510) 577-3230.
