Solano County Supervisor Skip Thomson was in a close race for his Fifth District seat but appears to have won re-election, according to complete unofficial results from Tuesday’s primary election.
Thomson had about 55 percent of the vote and challenger Mike Reagan, a businessman and retired member of the U.S. Air Force, was trailing with a little under 45 percent.
There will be a November runoff election in the Second District Board of Supervisors seat between retired teacher Monica Brown, who had 30.7 percent of the vote, and Mike Ioakimedes, a retired restaurant owner who had 25.3 percent.
College trustee and attorney Denis Honeychurch was third with 21.6 percent.
Supervisor Erin Hannagan was re-elected without opposition in the First District.
Also in Solano County, Measure J, a school district bond measure appears to have narrowly passed in Tuesday’s election, but a half-cent increase to the county sales tax did not reach the majority approval needed by voters, according to complete unofficial election results.
The $249 million bond measure for modernizing and improving schools in the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District got 55.4 percent approval, barely above the 55 percent needed. The total also included 46 voters in a Napa County portion of the district where only 18 voted yes.
Measure H, the county sales tax, got less than 44 percent of the vote. Supporters had sought to increase the tax for general governmental services, including road repairs and maintenance.
Measure G was also on the ballot as an advisory vote concerning the use of any revenue from Measure H if it had been passed.
The measure asked for the public’s opinion on reserving 96 percent of the revenue from the tax for maintenance and repair of local streets.
About 64 percent of voters said yes to the advisory measure but its passage was irrelevant with the failure of Measure H.
