Kerr: Curry and Thompson allowed ‘any shots they want’

Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson will always get a pass.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr says that there are no shots the tandem can take that he will ever hold against them, even after being held to a combined 20 points, and a 29 percent shooting clip:

“Those guys are allowed to take any shots they want. That’s the rule. Steph and Klay are, nobody else is. I trust their judgment. But the minute I start complaining about bad shots, all I have to do is: Oh, yeah, in Oklahoma City, Game 6, Klay took five bad shots that helped us win. So bad shots for those guys, it’s a different definition from everybody else. I was fine with the shots that they took in Game 1. They’ll be in a better rhythm, I’m sure, tonight, and I’d be surprised if they didn’t get going.”

Cleveland successfully honed in on Curry and Thompson in Game 1, and managed to hold them in check, but their efforts also allowed the Golden State bench to go off, pouring in 45 points, which proved the difference.

It was the tandem’s lowest combined scoring total of the season, regular or post, but Kerr doesn’t expect duplicate results:

“Well, they’re great players. I imagine they’ll come out and be aggressive and probably shoot a lot better than they did in Game 1. But you never know. You never know what’s going to happen from one game to the next. So for our team, it’s all about defending and taking care of the ball. Everything else is going to happen one way or the other. Those are the things we can control, and that’s our goal.”
