Contra Costa fire rescue crew finds missing jet skiers

A Contra Costa fire rescue crew rescued two men who were stranded when their Jet Ski broke down on the San Joaquin River on Thursday night, fire officials said.

Contra Costa County Rescue Boat 81 received reports of the missing men at 10:30 p.m. after they didn’t return from a late afternoon boat trip, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District officials said.

The missing men had launched from the Fulton Shipyard in Antioch.

Their family called the U.S. Coast Guard, who contacted the fire rescue boat crew.

The boat crew searched the area until they located them in Mayberry Cut. They were uninjured but their Jet Ski had broken down, stranding them for five hours.

Rescue Boat 81 had just been put in service eight hours prior to helping the stranded men after being relocated from the Pittsburg Marina to provide better coverage of the Antioch area, according to the fire district.
