House with barricaded suspect on fire

The Fremont Police Department Thursday morning is reporting residents on lockdown due to a standoff with an armed suspect barricaded in a home may leave their homes but must avoid Roberts Avenue and Washington and Fremont boulevards.

The Fremont Police Department is reporting there is an armed and dangerous homicide suspect in the house.

The Oakland Police Department has relieved the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office in the standoff with the armed suspect wanted in connection with the Wednesday shooting of two Fremont police officers.

There has been a fire reported at the residence.

UPDATE 8:52 a.m. Suspect in Fremont police shooting found dead.

The Fremont Police Department is reporting fire crews are continuing to try and put out the fire and are working to protect neighboring homes.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office reported just before 6 a.m. a tactical team with the Oakland Police Department had relieved the sheriff’s office.

The home where the standoff is occurring is in the area of Washington Boulevard and Roberts Avenue.

As of about 3 a.m., the sheriff’s office was reporting deputies had made contact with the armed suspect and had put gas in the house in an effort to get the suspect to come out.

The sheriff’s office first reported the suspect was located around midnight.

Law enforcement officials have containment and were negotiating with the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.

Two officers were shot Wednesday afternoon during two confrontations during a traffic stop.

Law enforcement officers spent hours searching for multiple suspects, including a gunman.

The incident started with a traffic stop at 1:33 p.m. Wednesday on Fremont Boulevard near Washington Boulevard.

After the suspects pulled over, the driver backed into a patrol car, and there was an exchange of gunfire, Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

The first officer was injured in the exchange of gunfire.

The driver pulled forward again, and one or more suspects ran from the traffic stop. Police started searching for them and located one of the suspects about 10 minutes later in the 1300 block of Roberts Avenue.

Gunfire was exchanged again, and a detective was shot multiple times, police said.

Both officers were taken to the hospital, and one of the officers was out of surgery Wednesday night but remained in critical condition. There has been no updated information this morning on the condition of the officers.

A shelter in place is still in effect for the area, and displaced residence can go to the Fremont Senior Center at 40086 Paseo Padre Parkway for food and shelter.

The Fremont Police Department reported late Wednesday night there were no plans to close any Fremont schools on Thursday.
