SFMTA consolidating Van Ness bus stops

Nine bus stops will be consolidated Saturday as the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority prepares to begin construction on the Van Ness improvement project this summer, according to SFMTA officials.

SFMTA said the new stop spacing along Van Ness Avenue will align with the plan for San Francisco’s first Bus Rapid Transit route.

According to SFMTA, the BRT route is a package intended to improve MUNI, making it faster and more reliable.

The nine stops being discontinued were chosen through extensive community input.

The discontinued stops include southbound stops at Greenwich Street, Pacific Avenue, Pine Street and Grove Street. Northbound stops being discontinued are at Greenwich Street, California Street, Post Street, Turk Street and Grove Street, according to SFMTA officials.

After consolidation, the stops will reflect where 18 furnished and accessible boarding islands will be built in the future for the Van Ness BRT system, SFMTA officials said.
