A motorcyclist died early Friday morning after he was ejected from his motorcycle following a collision on the Bay Bridge, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 2:15 a.m., CHP officers responded to a report of a collision on the eastbound Interstate Highway 80, near the Treasure Island off-ramp, according to CHP spokesman Officer Vu Williams.
A woman was driving a Nissan Altima in one of the bridge’s middle lanes when, for an unknown reason, she rear-ended a motorcycle traveling in front of her, Williams said.
The impact of the collision caused the motorcyclist to be ejected from the motorcycle.
The victim, believed to be in his late 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, according to Williams.
The driver of the Nissan stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Williams said.
Officers conducted a field sobriety test on the woman and determined she was not under the influence of alcohol or any substance, according to Williams.
The CHP closed three eastbound lanes on the bridge for more than two hours as they investigated the collision. All lanes have since reopened.
The CHP will continue to investigate the incident to determine what caused the driver to collide into the motorcycle, Williams said.
