Firefighters rescued a dog Sunday afternoon from a fire in a single-family San Jose home, a fire captain said.
The one-alarm fire was first reported at 2:08 p.m. at 5876 Ettersberg Drive.
Neighbors told dispatchers they saw smoke coming from every window and vent in the home, fire Capt. Mitch Matlow said.
When firefighters forced their way in they encountered thick black smoke.
The fire damaged mainly the kitchen and dining rooms but smoke caused damage throughout the home, Matlow said.
The fire displaced two people and two dogs. Matlow said it appears the fire started in the kitchen, but the cause has not been determined.
The rescued dog survived, Matlow said. No one was injured.
