The Oakland Raiders reached contract agreements with three of their 2016 draft selections Monday.
First round pick Karl Joseph, fourth round selection Connor Cook and seventh rounder Vadal Alexander agreed to terms with the team, four days ahead of Oakland’s rookie minicamp.
Joseph was the 14th overall selection out of West Virginia, where he played safety. It’s hoped that he will be the team’s starting strong safety when the regular season begins.
Cook was a surprise selection for a team who already has two quarterbacks with relative job security, and will attempt to prove his worth and make the Raiders brass roster three quarterbacks once more. He was one of the best quarterbacks in the history of Michigan State football, though he fell a bit in the draft due to inconsistency on the field.
Alexander looked like a potential second round pick with superb performances at Louisiana State University, but poor combine numbers put him into the final round of the draft. His goal this summer will be to crack a very good if not excellent rotation of offensive linemen, that features the highest paid guard in NFL history, Kelechi Osemele.
