The Warriors have upgraded Stephen Curry from doubtful to questionable for a possible return to action Monday night following a grade 1 MCL sprain in his right knee.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said:
“He played a good three-on-three yesterday, and he’s going to get treatment again this afternoon, but he came out of it feeling decent this morning.”
The Warriors lead the Portland Trail Blazers 2-1 in the Western Conference semi-finals and play Monday night at 7:30. The decision will be made after Curry finalizes his session with team doctors, at which time the medical staff will make their recommendation to Kerr.
Regardless of whether Curry is ready to go or not, there are lingering concerns after missing three weeks of game time. Kerr said:
“He played Game 1 of the Houston series, for one half. And that was, what, three weeks ago? So I don’t think his conditioning would be great. So that’s part of the discussion this afternoon. … When he plays, whether it’s tonight, or Wednesday, I don’t imagine he’ll play his usual minutes. I think he’s going to have to work up to that once he’s out there.”
Golden State has been next to unstoppable without Curry, so the limitation in minutes should be a minor thing for the remainder of the series, and maybe even for the playoffs, should the Spurs somehow get stonewalled.
