Friendly neighbor helps thwart burglary

Police arrested a 26-year-old man Thursday morning after a witness spotted him allegedly attempting to burglarize a Vacaville home.

Around 4 a.m., police received a call regarding suspicious activity at a home in the 700 block of Azalea Way, according to police.

The caller said they saw a person with a flashlight in the backyard of a home. When officers responded to the residence, they saw a person inside with a flashlight, police said.

Shortly afterward, the officers saw Vacaville resident Timothy Casavant exiting the home, wearing gloves. Officers quickly detained Casavant.

They determined he had forced entry into the home and had collected some of the homeowner’s belongings, including a firearm, according to police.

The house was empty at the time of the burglary.

Officers arrested Casavant on suspicion of burglary and as well as a probation violation, police said.
