Cops nab suspect in Western Addition attempted rape

Police in San Francisco have arrested a man in connection with an attempted sexual assault that occurred Thursday.

Adam Berglund, 30, was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape and sexual battery, police said.

On Thursday at 10 a.m., officers with the San Francisco Police Department responded to an assault that occurred on Webster and Buchanan streets in the city’s Western Addition District.

Police said the suspect followed a 53-year-old female victim for a few blocks before attacking her.

The victim was able to escape the attack without injuries.

Police sent out an internal crime alert about the attack, and an officer recognized the suspect from prior police contacts.

On Friday, officers detained the suspect, identified as Berglund, in Portsmouth Square Park.
