A San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries during an incident Friday involving anti-Donald Trump protestors outside of the California Republican Convention in Burlingame.
The incident happened outside of the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Hotel, where the convention was being held, sometime between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., according to San Mateo County sheriff’s spokesman Sal Zuno.
Hundreds of protesters had gathered outside the hotel in anticipation of Trump’s appearance at a lunch banquet. The crowd allegedly blocked both directions of the road outside of the hotel.
A deputy who attempted to arrest a protestor was allegedly kicked in the face by another protester. That protestor was then arrested, Zuno said.
The deputy suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to Zuno.
Five people were arrested during the rally and, aside from the deputy, no other injuries were reported.
