Caltrain service will be affected this weekend by work to replace a 100-year-old rail bridge in San Francisco, according to train officials.
Bus shuttles will be used to move passengers Saturday north of Bayshore station in San Francisco, while those traveling between Bayshore and San Jose Diridon stations will be carried on trains, according to Caltrain officials. The day’s schedule will also be altered.
Caltrain officials said the temporary service changes are needed while construction crews work to replace the aged Quint Street Rail Bridge, which has been deemed structurally deficient, with a new berm.
SamTrans will provide bus service for passengers traveling from the San Francisco Caltrain Station at Fourth and King streets to the 22nd Street and Bayshore stations.
Northbound trains will operate on the normal Saturday schedule until they reach the Bayshore Caltrain Station and southbound trains will stick to the schedule once they depart the station.
There will be limited capacity for luggage and bikes on the SamTrans buses, which Caltrain employees will help guide people to.
Although work on the bridge will continue until Monday, train service will return to normal on Sunday, Caltrain officials said.
Once the bridge is replaced, San Francisco County Transportation Authority’s Quint-Jerrold Connector Road project will begin — a plan to link Quint Street to Jerrold Avenue with a road along the west side of the Caltrain tracks.
