Berkeley police seek help IDing speechless man

Berkeley police are asking for help identifying a man found sitting on a bench Saturday morning near the North Berkeley Library who was confused and in need of help.

A resident found the man at 11:30 a.m. near the library, which is located at 1170 The Alameda.

When officers arrived to help the man, he was unable to tell them who he is and he did not have identification with him, according to police.

The man was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. No one so far has come forward to say a man has been missing, police said.

The man appears to have been well cared for. He was wearing newer shoes but is unable to speak, according to police.

Anyone who knows the man is being asked to call Berkeley police at (510) 981-5900.
